    AR-15/M-4 Mags for Christmas

OK, it's not truly a boolit-related question, but since this is one of only two shooting-related sites I bother to read daily, I'm hoping that somebody here can offer advice.

Son-in-Law has gone and bought himself an M-4, and daughter suggests I should get him some 30rd. mags for Christmas. Being as any gun made after about 1953 is a passing fad to me, I know less than zero about Evil Black Rifles.

What magazine brand(s) are worth buying? Magpul plastic? C-Products aluminum? _________ ?

    Thanks !

Magpul PMAG or C-products magazines are both great mags, I use both. My C-product I have put Magpul auto-leveling followers in them just to improve reliability.

D&M mags from Bravo Company work just fine for me. They are a supplier for the US military and have the military procurement stamp on them. Best of all they are cheap!

All I use are Pmags. AIM Surplus has them on sale right now for $12.30 with free shipping for the 30 rnds.

I don't think these come with the dust covers though.
    Have a great day!

I've got several pmags and they work great. I also have several of the Bravo Company mags and I love those as well. Watch Bravo company for a sale and you can get them for a great price. I paid $8.99 each for mine with magpul followers.

Brownells are another source for USGI mags. They are a supplier to the US gov't. Otherwise, I buy all of my mags on the for sale section over at AR15.com. You can pick them up all the time for $8 ea. shipped for brand new ones. I picked up 40 of them last year from many different people and many different makers. All were USGI and ALL work perfect. I am kind of partial to the new version with the brown followers.

The MAGPUL P-Mags are considered "top of the line" by a lot of black rifle shooters. I have mostly 20s for my own use, but a couple of 30s for investigating prowlers, etc. I sent my step-son in AFGHANISTAN 6 or 7 30 round P-Mags and they are in his M4 and magazine pouches. Seven were all that would fit in his "care package" after the wife loaded it up, BUT I have another 9 to send him. Even if he can't use all of them, I think they would make good trade goods or gifts to his pals. I know the magazines won't be coming back, but they will have served their purpose when he comes home in May.

Thanks, y'all. I bought him a dozen of the pmags. Thankfully he doesn't read this site. (I hope).

I have several P-mags, and all but one work great! Good choice. The ones that have been working best for me lately are the Lancer L5's. They even make em in fancy clear and smoke see through if you are into that. The Brownell's mags are great also. They are the same as all military mags out there. Lucky son-in-law.

I hope you have already bought them. I suspect they are disappearing as fast as the cases of less expensive ammo have already disappeared.

Scalpers are really at it but anyone who'd pay $80 for a $10 magazine is a MORON....

New York limits us to 10 round mags. I always carry 10 rounders with me to the range to keep people off my back. Just picked up some nice ones for around $14.00 each from 44 mag. Shipping is only $5.00 but they are backlogged with orders. I don't care when they come.

gatman, are you saying there are people at your range out in New York who want to "mind your business" too? Ha-ha! Love those types. You know, they want to tell you everything they think you shouldn't be doing or owning, but cannot normally hit the broad side of the berm themselves....

Glad to hear that WA State isn't the ONLY place with those guys at the range too!!
