Flaring 223 case mouths on a Dillon 550b

Does anyone know if Dillon makes a powder funnel for the .223 Rem that will flare the case mouth like their pistol funnels do? Or do they make custom funnels? I tried using the Lee case flaring tool but it puts the final stage on station four kinda on the wrong side of the press for me to set the bullet on the case.

    Not true...

The Dillon 223 powder funnel in my kit has a recess cut in it to trap the neck of the case around the outer dimension, not the inner. No flare at all... I guess they expect we'll be using boat-tail bullets....

You will need either a dedicated case neck expander station, or have one of the fine machinists on the forum make you a custom powder funnel.

A custom funnel is what I need. A dedicated station puts the flared case at station three and I need to put the bullet on at station three and hope it stays in place as I rotate the turret. Or you can try to place the bullet on the case at station four, that's a real pain in the @$$. For twenty five years I have placed the bullets on station three, I can't seem to change the rhythm! Anybody know who can turn a custom funnel?

Resize and decap on a different press in a batch. Install an "M" type expansion die at station one and make lots of ammo.

I size bottle neck cases on a single stage press.
Tumble clean the cases. To remove case lube.
Then use a Lyman M die in station one on my Dillon 550.

First issue you'll run into with a powder through expander funnel for a 22 caliber is a very small tube inside diameter. May get it to work with fine ball powder but you can forget stick or flake powder.

Someone around hear mentioned a while back. Using a lee collet neck sizer. Grinding the collets so the neck was not sized tight against the mandrel to form an expanded case neck. They were sizing for a larger caliber though.
I’ve used the Lee collet neck size die in 243 Win to load J bullets on a Dillon press. With great success. Since those dies do not require any case lube. However the Lyman M die will give you a lot better formed neck to work with and with 22 cast boolits you need a good fitting neck.

If you had a larger caliber I'd say make a powder funnel for the Dillon with an M die step in it. I'm happy with the extra step of sizing in a sinlge stage press first.

I size, deprime and clean in large batches as a separate function. I use lanolin as case lube and I like to have lube-less cases on the finished product.
When I do cast boolits, I have a Lee universal expander in station one with powder, seat and collet crimp in the remaining stations.
For J-words, the first station is empty.

I can wait a second for the powder to drop through a small funnel. That would be better than trying to place the boolit on station four. I'm using H335 so it won't get caught in the funnel. Sizing on a separate press is out. That kinda defeats the purpose of the Dillon. Looks like I'll have to have a funnel made. I'll call Dillon on Tuesday and see what they have to say.
