I was reading on the MARLIN OWNERS forum about a fellow who had bullet mold which he was using in a 35 REM (would work in a 358 or 35 Whelen too, I imagine).
This bullet looked like a 358318 with the RN cut back to a FN .275" meplat.
This fellow says that with his bullet crimped in the crimp-groove, the OAL is 2.525" (absolute maximum OAL for 35 REM).
With a 1.920" case, this would mean the the nose-to-crimp length would need to be .605" (although .60" might be a bit safer.)
Has this bullet design EVER been done as a GB in the past here? If so, are there enough interested guys (and/or gals) to do a RE-RUN? (Not sure if BRP ever ran this one...)
If not... who (besides me) might be interested in a 242 gr 35 (or 38 pistol) bullet with a 76.8% meplat?
Would be a great lever gun bullet in a Marlin 35...!
PS: if this could be done in multiple diameters, perhaps it could be offered in .360", or perhaps even in .366" (9.3mm) ... which might necessitate using .375 GC's.
