Picked up three of them. They weigh about 23 pounds a piece.

My Dad would call it a Do-Hicky,
or that thing over there.

Maybe they held some sort of isotope?
Looks like an old style isotope container... Not at all like the two that I just melted down today. Mine were 32 pounds each.

Hmmm, lets see if I can put this in lay terms,,,,,,

Do-Hicky's
At least Hickory got that part right!

Are they pure or some kind of aloy? They seam pretty hard to be pure.
Looks like a flux capacitor to me. Be careful you don't take it over 80mph in your car, you may end up some were you didn't expect.
Jesting aside, I'm sure they are alloy blend of some sort. If they were mine I would melt one down, cast some boolits, and if you don't have a tester, compare their weight to a known alloy you have already. That would give a some idea of it composition.

+1 on the isotope containers (inference based on geometry).
The radiused slots down to the bottom were to get grippers onto the contents, the holes at top were for a crossbar which probably both secured a top slot of lead cover and enabled suspended carriage.
look like big hollow points to me ( hate to have to hoist that barrel tho - or carry a box of loaded rounds :P ) i concur with melting one down ,

the few i have dealt with were very close to ww alloy but with more tin.
Looks like boolits-in-the-rough but some folks might slide and axle through those holes to hold a pulley in that slot to use those nearly boolits as a counterweight. Just my $.02. DR Nurse1
The people that I got them from said they use them as counterweights at butcher shop. What they were used for and what they are could be two very different things. Thanks for the input guys. They also handed me a box of muffins that they said were lead. It turned out to be 30, two pound muffins of linotype.
Good luck cutting it I had to use a cutting torch set to cut mine up
I joined this site with a goal that sounds normal.
To learn to make a mold and cast a boolit.
Until you realize I want to make a 1.4 caliber boolit for a spud gun. This is my goal! Feel free to come hate or help me reach it.
Spud gun Lead Boolit thread
Never seen that configuration before, but I would bet those were shields to tech-99m generators. As has been mentioned, current ones are of a different configuration, and most of the new ones come from Canada.
I would guess they are going to be pretty similar to WW alloy. Only the heavy particles like come from Iodine need pure lead shields.
