477 LFN GC Mihec Cramer HP

I'm starting a new thread for those that would like a GC version. This will be a single crimp groove, and will fit in FA revolvers. i would like to see this at 400 in the HP version. That is a little heavier than the plain base version. I will try and get the powers that be to get us a pic up, but until then you can see one at post number 60 here

    http://www.castboolits.gunloads.com/...8&postcount=60

We will need fifteen to commit to this, and I am number 1 Will run this for six weeks or until we get the number we need.

    Something to look at:
I can vary the band length somewhat to get your weight specs, but you will have to decide on the present HP or larger. Meplat to crimp groove is 0.365".

The plain base is 410 to 385ish I believe. I would like this to be 420-425 to 395-400 ish. comparing fp to hp. other than that I don't really know about what should be varied to make it happen. I do know that we can't go too small on the hp or it won't expand I believe 45 2.1 stated in the other thread. I am not really concerned about the fp casting, I will use this only for the hp myself. So I am fine with 425ish on the fp or larger and using a big hp pin to get us at 400. Some I know will be using this in rifles as well, so we can have two pin sizes which I will probably take as well even though i don't have a rifle. Thanks to 45 2.1 for the pic (s).

The hp pin I assume will be round at the least. Most likely will have penta as well if desired. Do you have a preference? I am not certain what your first question is in regards to. diameter is 477 we are looking at a 400 grain hp.

the diameter will be 477 not 470. The only option would be to size down 007. I do not think mihec can alter diameter that much. But I am not sure, but we can find out. But i doubt it.

round pin works for me and i think the width and dept of your drawing is about right. Getting carried away with expansion in a bullet that big is a mistake. We shot game with huge hp cavity .512s and penetration was dissmal. My idea of a perfect hp is one that if it does loose its nose has AT LEAST 2/3s of the bullet remaining to keep doing the work. Any bullet with a hp cavity that goes deaper then the crimp grove isnt much good for anything but varmits.

We are already just about halfway there. I like round hp's best, however mihec usually gives both I know. I was not desiring a hp deeper than the crimp groove either. We can always see where it is going to fall pretty much, and have an option for extra pins for those that desire it. If I could get email address it would make things smoother when we are ready to go. You can just pm me the addy if you want and I will not post it on the forum. The main thing is that we are all in contact and available when it is time to make the mold and pay for it so nobody gets missed.
