    A Learning Experiance

A couple of weeks ago I was going to pass thru Clarksville, Tenn. I was going to buy 4000 Varmint Nightmare bullets for a friend to save the cost of postage. Called Mid South to order them for pickup the next day. Was going to be an expensive purchase. The lady on the line asked me if I knew that if picked them up at location, I would have to pay the state tax which was 9+ percent. I quickly deduced that I could save appreciably by having them sent in a flat rate box via the post office. Don't know if the same applies to Midway, or Natchez, etc., but all of a sudden, at least on larger dollar orders think I have found one reason to like the postal system.

The moronic socialists in CA are currently trying to impose the CA sales tax on all internet purchases made from CA.

To the socailists you are nothing but a cash cow that they will squeeze any time they desire.

Can't wait to get out of here and leave this place to the cool aid drinking, spineless, tiny brained little comrades.

I will get flamed for this. I hate taxes as much as the next guy. Do we realize how much sales tax money is lost to sales both going out and coming into each of the states each year? It wouldn't surprise me to see all 50 states to start charging sales tax on at least all out going sales in the near future. Especially as each states shortfall of revenues continue to climb.

The only local and state taxes that I hate to pay is that portion that is earmarked for social services.

I hope the Post Office puts a stop to it. They are making a lot of money because of people like me that are buying Mail Order to avoid the ridiculous 9% sales tax.
I am up to over 130 items off of ebay and other mail order sites. I can often have thing shipped here at less money than the rip-off taxes. When buying from sellers on ebay I always check where it is being sold from and many of the California sellers have gotten wise to us and won't list their address so I avoid them by asking where they are located before I bid on their products..

    Jonch,
I think I might have bought a few things on the web out of state, but I can't remember any of them.

    35isit,
Yes, I think we do know. "The Man" will ultimately collect His dues, either coming or going. Or, if history teaches us anything, both! Taxed for income, taxed for selling, taxed for buying, taxed for holding, taxed for owning, taxed for transporting, taxed for using, etc. You are very correct. The states miss a lot of income from internet sales, but don't worry, what you save on the web will be made up on your W-2.

I just heard the worst one yet. The governor sent someone in an old fplks home a bill because the state REFUNDED him to much in 1986. He said no way. The state now has the I R S taking money out of his SS check each month till what The state WANTS is paid back. The sad thing is ILLINOIS only keeps records for TEN years.

Yes the thieves are controlling the hen house.

Nobody will be outraged and start screaming from the rafters until they fully realize, understand and believe . . .

We DO NOT have a lack of taxation problem.

We do have a severe and completely out of control spending problem.

It is not their money to take whenever and how much they want even though the socialists believe it is theirs and only by their good nature do they allow us to keep a little off it.

Wake up and smell the coffee folks.

All retail sales within the state are taxed. I live in NE and if I buy off Cabelas web site I still pay NE taxes as the order is shipped from within the state.
I don't like sales taxes but I do appreciate supporting a local business. If I have to pay taxes they may as well be in the state I live in

Montana has no sales tax, nor does Oregon. I believer there are two other States as well.

States cannot force an out of state vendor to charge sales tax on purchases shipped into their state unless that vendor has facilities located in the state. That's from a US Supreme Court decision.

The only way that state's could get that changed is if Congress adopts a federal law to the contrary - which many states are lobbying for ( even though its not a significant amount of money percentage-wise ). I think Illinois senator Dick Durbin introduced a bill this session as an example.

Yes he did. He was the one that complained about Chicago having the highest price for gas till it was pointed out that Chicago had ELEVEN different taxes on a gallon of gas.

G'day, lots of the BIG retailers here in Australia have been up in arms recently about Australians buying goods from overseas and not paying any tax on them. They want the Aust. Government to regulate that buyers pay tax on internet goods because, they say, they are losing money. Government said can't be done so now the retailers are mostly looking at going online themselves to sell their goods at prices comparable to those available overseas. Go figure!

Try living here and constantly paying the tax...even on groceries. Fortuneately, I live 400yds south of the KY border and drive a few minutes for the 6% sales tax.

With Midsouth being 20minutes away, I place smaller orders so the tax vs shipping is a mute point. When it applies to primers, I purchase them at a local gun shop, just a few pennies cheaper after I get a 10% discount.

Taxing internet sales will simply bring an end to most internet sales.

The cost of shipping balances the taxes for the most part. If I have to pay both I'll simply have a local business get the stuff for me or do without.

    Duh Whats an internet?

Is it like a fishing net or something bigger like a volley ball net. Buying out of state? How do you get out of state?

Come on you are harassing an OLD man and that is against the law so go and pick on someone that has money. You have been STEALING mine for most of my life.

Now all I can afford is dog bones soaked in water for my one meal a day.
