It's the recessed lands at the end of a T/C front-stuffer. It makes it easier to start a patched ball or a REAL boolet.

DCM was an office (not a room, but one held by a person), and the title of the office was Director of Civilian Marksmanship.

Found some old abbreviations threads; will add info from them soon to our master list.

Anyone have anything else they would like to see added to the list?

I guess it all pertains what context it is being used.
I have used PBR more than once, but as in Point Blank Range. Not to be cofused with the Hollywood use of the nomenclature. In regards to exterior ballistics, PBR is the trajectory in which a boolit or bullet is +/- to the line of sight in inches, on a given size target. For instance,,, a 6" PBR a projectile is neither more than 3" above or below the line of sight (LOS). The actual range is dictated by the veloctiy, intended target size, and atmospheric conditions as well, for that particular boolit/bullet and load.

The point of language is to communicate. If we inject "insider" terms that aren't WELL known into our posts we have obstructed our communications. Anytime I have to figger out someone's abbreviations or have to consult a "dictionary" sticky to understand what he means I'll just keep moving and ignore the whole thing. (Not that anyone will care, including me.)

Excepting such common and well known terms such as OAL, BTHP bullets, FL sizing, etc, we post about most of that stuff so seldom maybe it's more reasonable (and maybe faster?) to actually type what we are talking about rather than compiling a multipage collection of esotoric abbreviations? ROTHFLMAO.

Thanks Patsher for keeping this going, and thanks Ken for "sticking" the official list, this is WAY overdue here and an excellent reference for our newer members.

Okay, the master list is up to date through here. Please continue to post your suggestions here; I will update the master list (now located in the "Classic and Stickies" section).

You may have noticed that the master list is missing from this thread. I deleted it here since the master list has now been made into a "Stickie" -- reason: so that I will have only one list to update, rather than two. This should eliminate any possible confusion -- and, I confess, makes it easy to keep current.

Have something to add? Please just post it here -- I'll pick it up and add it. Thanks, everyone -- great input! Keep it coming!
