Just an FYI. The M1 ball ammo was 174gn at ~2600fps. M2 ball was 150gn at 2740fps. If you stay at or below those levels then I would not worry.

I'm another who uses a DA revolver to 'tune' my trigger pull. I also skip a chamber every now and then to see how I am doing.
For dry fire practice you can use an old trick from the Army field...

Perfect for concealed carry :) Nice looking little thing too!

Following the thread since I've been playing with the idea of making a new plug for my Garand as well.
Long Covid. Hang in there. Wife got it last Jan. She is still dealing with joint issues...

Don't know. From what I have read from others the VP9 might do ok with lubed cast bullets. I PC all of my pistol bullets and I suspect the sharp edge to the rifling is scraping the coating.

^^^THIS!!
Should have been handed off to one of the traditional Japanese sword makers. Make a real weapon out of it.

The problem I have with my HK VP9 is not the rifling. There is no throat. The sharp edges of the rifling 'shave' off a bit of the bullet and makes for poor accuracy. Jacketed works well. I...

Back when I got my .45LC (1980's) and was looking up loads there was an article about an African PH who used a Ruger BH for his backup "lion gun". His loads were HOT 300gn lead cylinders just like...

Had an NCO who was a marine tanker in VN. He kept an M1/M2 on the turret when he needed to hit a tgt closer than his MG would pivot. He used it quite a bit and was not in the least disappointed by...

You might look up and see if you need a license to sell lead or lead alloys. Other than that all the rest of the stuff, molds, pot and sizing stuff should be ok.

Just wondering. Why are you adding tin and how much? I've never felt the need to do that.

Keep in mind that the 10 twist barrel tends to favor loads below 2000fps.
My std Garand really liked the 210gn bullets at 1900fps. It would function with 165gn bullets at 2100fps, but, they were...

If you don't want to go with Smoke's offerings then Eastwood Ford Light Blue is the most foolproof I have used.

My pot is around the same temp. Molds are preheated on a hotplate to around 350F.

I have never had an issue here in southern NM either. The bullet lube that sits in my garage does not even go out of round (2500+).
Like Larry, I do not leave my ammo in the direct sunlight on...

I'm only 70 and am casting more bullets per year than I ever did before.
So far I still enjoy it and I like the results I get. I enjoy getting decent accuracy from cast bullets at longer ranges. ...

I am a soda jerk so a can is always around (unless I am around a pot of melted lead).

I'm like Don. The only bullets I keep in 'storage' are jacketed.

You can't change the alloy. You can change the hardness of the alloy if you heat treat. You can increase the hardness of most alloys if you water cool from the oven. I air cool so there is no...

Baking them past the mfgs minimum makes for a fully cured coating that has a lower friction. The one time I tried shortcutting the baking process I got bullets that needed more force to size.

We measured a few hundred of them before we got tired of it. Then we just lubed and shot them. Worked great, even for my father-in-law who was a Navy bullseye shooter.
Forum: Cast Boolits
Yep, we did measure them. .452 and .358 as cast.
I hate loading cast for my 9mm so I just buy plated bullets for it.
Forum: Coatings and Alternatives
At least close, yes.
I shoot my .308 out to long ranges (500+). The vel of a load changes more from day to day than the difference in lube vs PC. Here is a 100yd test. Same day, same range,...

For a long time Lee molds were designed to drop a CWW alloy bullet ready to load. I did that exact thing with my .45's and .357. Cast, pan lube and load. Didn't own a lubesizer or size dies until...

Time to prep the bullets is a huge variable, depending on how you are processing.
You can PC 500-1000 bullets (or more) in one batch with a std size oven. If you are careful in mold purchasing...
