I also vote on the 500. Reloading is the only way to go.. Low and mid range loads are still very accurate. Try Titegroup loads.

38 special for older guns, most all newer/modern pistols will state +P's are OK to use.
May not want to shoot +P's/hotter loads in the older guns. My2cents

If you don't get any/many replies, may want to consider a larger caliber for coyotes. I don't use less than a 220 swift
