Forum: Vintage Powder Cans / Tins
Don't know why exactly, but don't think I've seen one without a little rust inside. Don't know if the nitro percentage of the old powder, or just age or both.
IIRC, the old balloon head cases were discontinued before the 44 mag was introduced, if that's what you were referring to, hate ending a sentence with a preposition. Sorry.

Frankford Arsenal priming tool works like the old Lee but built of better materials. Costs more, but you only need one and it comes with all the shellholders.
Agree with the neck tension comment. Not mentioned enough in my estimation. Elmer stressed this. He wrote that a slight bulge at the base of the bullet was a good thing. Too much crimp can actually...

Bought a Rockchucker back in the 70s. Been through lots of presses since, just about all name brands, from Dillon to Redding. Since I retired, have nothing but time on my hands, gone back to the RC...

"polymerized" Not sure if that's really true, though.

Been using the RCBS mallet for thirty some years.
Didn't know it wasn't supposed to work, I guess.

Still using the first ProMelt I ever saw right after RCBS bought them out, I think. Anybody know how old and new compare? Seems like I paid close to $300 for it. Never a problem in last 20 something...

I'm not the only loader who double drops the LD, am I? For example, I drop two #15s to get my load of 4227 for 44 mag.
Forum: Reloading Equipment
You're correct. On second look, mine is a 16 gauge.

A 20 gauge shotshell plastic box holds 25 rotors perfectly, end up to see which one you're picking. I also use it handheld over loading blocks. Inspect the blocks with a strong light after loading to...
Back in the 70s, maybe early 80s, I bought a Gold Cup. I was not overly careful back then so developed a load using data from different gun mags. Your 10 grains of Blue Dot and a 250 grain Keith SWC....

The 429-240-2r works slick in my 1894. It's a roundnose but no primer to nose mag problems. Get the 6 cav.
Fascinating stuff. As one of your customers, I appreciate your efforts in this area.

Agreed. Use Windows 10. Turn off some of the defaults to slow down the snoopers and it's good to go. I literally go weeks occasionally without needing to reboot. Stable as Linux almost.
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
Just wondering, but why do all this when everything comes out in the smelting?
Forum: Leverguns
Where'd you find 4756? Haven't seen any in years.

BTW, if you use a wooden stick to stir with, make sure it has NO moisture content, for obvious reasons.

Makes me kind of sad that manuals I bought new are now "vintage" :(
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
Swastikas were used a lot in prewar literature. Boy Scout manuals were full of them, literally. The inside binders of some were top to bottom swastikas. The war changed all that. Hence, I'd say your...

Swastikas are a symbol of religion and divinity. They were appropriated by Hitler for some reason which killed their reputation.
Bought one for the wife as well. She liked it so well, had to buy another for myself.

I put mine in a container of hot water for a few minutes.
