Well, how about the Ruger NM .44 Spl "Flattop"?

I'll 3rd that notion and I CERTAINLY would not "fit" an oversize basepin with a garage variety "drillpress"...You're likely to end up with a fit that's not as "tight" as original, but the word...
Sounds like you need a Ruger Blackhawk .45. You can stick with Colt SAA level loads for plinking, or load to .44 mag ballistics if desired for woods carry. One sixgun to do it all! JMO...
There is no such thing as a 50's Flattop "Super" Blackhawk. They are simply "Ruger .44 mag Blackhawk" This is the gun that Ruger originally built for the .44 mag. that was readily available before...
I think you need to study your Ruger history a little more amigo. The early "Flattop" Blackhawk in .44 mag, (see avatar, 1960 model) fluted cylinder and all, can certainly handle any .44 SAAMI load...

.44 Spl or mag? I'll assume mag, I'd pick 250 for either but the 310 would be good in the mag if accurate. I never had much luck in that regard with the 310 Lee. RCBS 250K was very accurate in my .44...
A 200 gr at 900 fps in the .38 Spl is pushing it IMO...
I started dusting lampblack on my front handgun sights a couple years ago for bench shootin' and "wouldn't leave home without it" now...FWIW
Haven't tried .45 Colt duplex loads, but played with 2 short lil' 82 gr WC's in a .357 case with interesting results. As mentioned, faster didn't seem better, think I got best results around 850 fps...
Huh! Pardon me sonny.... (And "dam" is spelled damn) [smilie=l:
Same here! Be a shame to injure that new selfstoker with a head separation or blowout at feedramp etc. I doubt aluminum is as "forgiving" as brass, especially after resizing/workhardening a half...
Sure a 270 HP would be fine on a deer. Actually, the original black powder .45 Colt load has dropped more than a few critters such as buffalo, grizzly, runaway horses etc. The "lesser" .44/40, even...
Fit bullets to throat, lube with Supermoly, should be good to go IMO...
I think so too. I fired some sized down 457191 292 gr @ from 1150 to 1270 fps yesterday, and the accuracy looked promising right out of the gate. A 270 HP would likely be a nice "all around" Ruger...
Perfect. Thanks. I'm about to test some 457191 292 gr sized down to .454" with 457122 330 gr "Gould" to follow next. I'll keep y'all posted...:Fire:
You ain't kidding! Using stout charges of W296 in .45 LC, I saw nearly 100 fps difference between a 350 and a WLP...:holysheep
Must be the reason for those pathetic 4" 200 yd groups!:bigsmyl2:
Dang Whit! No need for a Ransom Rest around you! I'm not getting groups like that off the bags! But anyway, I'm still looking for a "best" bullet, I'm hoping my experiments with sized down...
Beautiful accuracy 44man! How about some varmit shooting at 140 yards :bigsmyl2: http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a356/BucksOwin/12db6a09.jpg Gotta love a SA Ruger
What "sucks" about new Lyman molds? Are they building them different somehow? I agree about RCBS molds, they are fine designs and accurately built, and drop nice bullets right out of the gate IMO....

Thanks for the report! I'm looking forward to trying this bullet sized .454" in my .45 Ruger BH at 1150 fps or so, as well as in my .45/70 going somewhat faster....
Yep, I'd be thinking of the 330 gr 457122 HP "Gould" squeezed down to .452-4"...(What I'm doing in .45 Ruger BH) That's a classic old .45 cal game killer, at 460 velocities it should be explosive...
Exactly my findings too. When I quit fooling with some old Lee .454" dies and got a recent RCBS size die, my W296 loads improved. And FWIW, going to a CCI 350 instead of a WLP with 296 jumped...
No need amigo, Try 19 grs of SR 4759. That'll fill the .45 Colt case to the base of most 250-260 gr bullets, eg 454191 or Lee 252 gr SWC, and drives them to 1025 fps with no pressure concerns and...
Could've fooled me, my UNQ loads look like buckshot! But the same bullet hit with HS-6 or W-296 shoots pretty nice!....I think sixguns are kinda like women....(but I will stop right there!) :bigsmyl2:
