I've been using a Lyman 450 since 1972 ... nothing has broken and it's still doing it's assigned task ... I don't have a bad word to say about it ... I Like It !

Pure lead , even when powder coated is too soft for loading into a 9mm Luger .
When you seat the boolit in the case it gets squeezed down and the soft nose deforms on the feed ramps .
I mix pure...

I have never had a gas check make a load shoot worse .

Everytime I used a gas check (rifle loads here) things got better .

You can work up decent loads with plain based boolits but ... by and...

The gas check protects the boolit base ... Powder coating does not .

Anytime I load rifle boolits at over 900 fps ... a gas check is used .

The Gas Check can be your friend ... do not fear...

You want something like a Crawfish Boiling Rig ... 100,000 - 110,000 BTU Jet Burner and steel stand to hold a 100 quart pot , full of crawfish and water ...
forget turkey fryer ... Wimpy , wimpy ,...

This is a good idea ,
We bought a 110 V. heater / fan from the Wally Mart for our green house , can be used as fan or as heater... worked so well my Son "borrowed" it for his apartment...

Dry Purina Rabbit Chow .
Carries easily in a zip-lock and doesn't spoil ... rabbits seem to like it along with the "Trash Panda's" .

If you have Unique powder on hand ... I would start with a load of 6.0 or 6.5 grains Unique and work up slowly to get the desired recoil / accuracy ...
My pet / favorite load with a 185 gr. JHP...

Get best boolits just at "frosty" ... I hear the frosty surface helps hold coatings !

Remove the nipples or pull the lead balls out , clean the cylinder chambers and
start over fresh and new . Buy some proper pistol...

#1 Since the boolit is shorter behind the crimp groove ... and heavier , the first thing I would do is seat a boolit to the crimp groove in a dummy round or two and check if the dummy rounds will...
