Myth: it's easy to get cheap or free wheel weights.

Fact: maybe for many of you 15 years ago, and maybe for some of you now. But it sure ain't for me :-)

I removed the stock wood round grip, made a new one out of a piece of broom handle then put a lead weight into the center (simpler than it sounds - see pic).

This has helped with dripping, though...

Me too. I've been annealing by torch so far, then doing a citric acid bath followed by tumbling. Citric acid + tumbling makes for some very clean & pretty brass.
