I said in an earlier post that I use Win 231, but I also load 7 gr. of Unique behind a 265 gr. RNFP. It also shoots well in both my revolver and carbine.

I've shot cast in .45 auto, 9mm, .380 and even .25 auto. Cast has always worked well in any of them. The only one that gave any difficulty is the .25 auto, but that is due to getting it to cast well....
Think this one over.....Camp Perry in Ohio has been the site of the Nationals for nearly a century. The bullets all end up in Lake Erie. Once they are there, they form a layer of lead oxide. That...
My 7TCU absolutely loves 100 and 120 grain jacketed bullets. You can crank those up pretty high. And they WILL knock down rams. BUT ya gotta hit them first!
This is an interesting discussion for me. I have 3 firearms in .45 Colt; a Uberti cattleman revolver, a Uberti 1873 lever action and a Contender single shot. I've had them for years and have been...
I was at a LGS the other day looking at primers. SRP, LRP. SPP and LPP were all marked between $130 and $149/1000. Shotgun primers were between $70 and $90/1000 depending on brand. That is one of the...
I see a wide variety of early Contender barrels at the shows that I go to. Prices range from $225 to $275 with a few exceptions like .44 mag barrels with the screw on shot tube. I should add though,...

In a pinch, you can get away with IMR 4350, but you won't get as good performance.
I will caution you about using that data. Many of the powders that you will find listed have changed their formulation over the years, so start cautiously with minimum loadings and work up slowly. I...
I fired up my Littleton today. I started at 10 and finished at 3, with an hour off for lunch! 100# of 7.5 shot made. I used straight COWW alloy and dollar store fabric softener for coolant. Tomorrow,...
I usually load with Unique, but I have WSF as well and there are quite a few 20 ga. loads using that.

My 16 is a model 12 built in 1943. I love that gun for hunting. It is my turkey gun with a full choke barrel. I actually use it occasionally for skeet too. I usually hit 19 or 20 out of 25. Not bad...
I like Win 231 in my .45 colt with the 265 gr rnfp. Shoots well out of the Uberti SAA and groups 5 shots under 1 inch at 50 yards out of my Uberti 1873 clone lever action.
I only use really heavy charges like those in my Contender pistol. It can take loads that are right up there with .44 mag loads.

My Uberti lever in .45 Colt loves a 265 gr fprn with either Win 231 or Unique. It will hold smaller than 1 inch 5 shot groups at 50 yards off sand bags. When I do my job, it drops deer in their...
Sound Guy, I'm up in the NE corner of Ohio. I also shoot cast in 8mm. I've had good luck with a range of weights. If at first, you don't succeed. try again using a tuft of dacron poly!

+1 for expanding before trimming. It is a lot easier that way.
Forum: Cast Boolits
Yeah, yeah! Sure, sure! Like none of us ever discovered dies and bullets at the back of the shelf for a handgun or rifle we sold 10 years ago! or was that 20?? Its been so long that I don't remember!

WOW! That really sounds like mag problems to me. The only other possibilty in my mind is the mag catch holding the mag too low.

I suspect it was just bad primers. A few years ago, I had 8 bad primers out of 100 in a batch of Winchester srps. I sent them back to Winchester and they sent me a couple hundred replacements. It...

Just put the brass in and tumble it with some torn up paper towel. The paper picks up any residue from the brass and any graphite that comes off the bowl. I helps clean your tumbling media at the...

For those of you who find the .223 oppressive, I suggest dropping down to a .222 Rem. in a bull barreled Rem 700 BDL using a 45 gr. bullet. I think you might find that recoil manageable. I use mine...
I have a Littleton shot maker. I love that thing. Depending on the size shot I'm making;#9, 7.5 or #6, I can crank out anywhere from 60 to 130 pounds of shot in an average day. I use straight WW lead...

I have one of the bayonet type chronos. I had a similar problem with that. I had to increase the sensitivity quite a bit before it would register cast bullets.
