(1) 3" magnum HP slug out of dad's single-shot H&R 12ga was enough for me back when I was a teen in the 80s. Not a huge fan of getting the crap kicked out of my bad shoulders.

I was in my lower field today on the tractor and found this along the way.

I have Asian hornets here in Arkansas but this guy was much bigger than them.

I'd have lined up a row of 4" solid concrete blocks and see how many it busted.

So I have this huge hornet hanging around. Looks like a European hornet but bigger--maybe a queen? 1.25-1.5" body as big around as a carpenter bee. I could have shot it but it wasn't bugging me so I...

I bet it shakes the ground. "Hello, Lee, I need a cheap carbide .950JDJ die set...":p
Yep, nearly unlived himself.

This guy loves big bore rifles and I think he finally met his match. Round is based on the 20mm Vulcan rotary cannon round. Recoil looks brutally insane from a 50lb rifle. Ouch!

First victim of the 9mm gelatin load just now. 3ft flying and weaving point and shoot. Knocked his guts out.

Rock on with it. Interested in your results
One thing about it--we are getting better at it.

Ha,ha! Steal away. I feel like the capsules are the ultimate way to cram more rice into these things. The powder charge on the .38 is 2.0gr vs .5gr for the 9mm.
One thing you will find out is...

Whoa, the .38spl load is devastating.

Ok heres the .38spl. 1 run thru the crimper to swage it down at the neck, 2gr powder, cardboard wad, 11gr of rice on the wad topped with a filled gelatin gapsule for a payload of 26.7gr of rice.

So I made a procedural error and corrected it to make using the gelatin capsules easier. I was first swaging the cases down in the .380 crimp then resizing in the 9mm die then flaring. In doing that...

After the .22LR fiasco I shot 2 with my .22mag. One from the back with Maxi Mag HPs. The bullet shattered on the haunch and I had to put it down with another bullet.
I bought Maxi Mag solids and...

I have killed a few that hung over my 11" wide shovel 11" on each side not counting the tail and as big as a basketball in diameter. Estimated 30lbs. I carried one that big ~75 yds to my holler after...

Acted like a fool is what. I thought I was running a 9mm case in a .380 die to swage the end down for my shot capsule loads.
The case went in the die then got stuck and the shell holder popped...

I sent you a PM on how to get rid of the iron stains as well as the iron and possibly sulfur in the well.

That was my thought as well. Luckily this was the only one of 25 or more I've killed that has done this. Makes me wonder if it was one I had shot at and hit poorly that got away.

They definitely are. I have seen one develop a heightened sense of awareness. It could tell I was coming from 50yds away and would take off running at dog speed. First time I saw it happen I walked...

They are getting huge in NW Arkansas and I have seen them foraging in sub-freezing weather here over the last few years. I think they are packing on body fat to combat the cold. This is a relatively...

Have you pulled a crimped bullet and measured it? Check to see if your crimp is swaging it down in size.
I'm too cheap to buy brass for this but .454 would be nice if it uses small primers.

OK, I got it figured out and am happy with the results. No extra glue, tape, nothing needed to secure the capsules. Brass just needs a modification and then can stay for use with shot loads. I was...
