The sliding door mechanism looks like the one on an 1873 rifle that I just repaired.
Except this one was a crescent type(rifle) buttplate.

I had the .410 solid frame pump that the 170 was based on and if you didn’t pump it “briskly” it was prone to hanging up like Pietro mentioned.
The Remington pump rifles were the best.

The Remington 180 gr RN bullet in the .303 British factory loads was available as components back when I had my first Krag. They measured .310” and shot better than .308” bullets.
