1894 Winchester reloading tool.

Hi.
I just recently bought an 1894 Winchester reloading tool in 32 Winchester Special (WS) from ebay. It was advertised with the decapping pin included. However when I received the reloading tool and to my disappointment, the decapping pin was not in fact for the 32 WS. I have no idea what it is for. The reloading tool is in excellent condition with about 95 percent bright bluing. To get to the crux of this thread, I have two questions - I think I know the answer to my first question, does anyone have an unneeded decapping pin to suit the 32 WS reloading tool that they might sell me and question two if anyone does have one, would there be any chance of providing me with a detailed description with measurements of length, diameter, length of pin etc. to enable me to fabricate a new one.

Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

I've got a very rare Winchester screw sizing tool, which I believe originated in 1891 and was superseded by yours. Good move, probably. Mine had the unusual technique of sizing down the case neck onto the bullet. I can't say I ever had trouble with the brass springing back more than the lead, as so many people would happen if you size jacketed bullets. But I would rather have case neck thickness, which may be greater now than in the 1890s, affecting the cartridge neck diameter than the bullet diameter.

Mine was complete, but I believe I remember hearing that someone makes or used to make, decapping pins for the 94 tool. I doubt if there is the demand to advertise and keep on advertising, though. A specialist antique Winchester dealer like Leroy Mertz might be able to point you in the right direction.

BobInAus -- I believe more than one Winchester reloading tool was made. Might you post a photo of the one you have? Or, perhaps even the eBay sale -- you should easily be able to access it from your purchase history. I have a small collection, including that for the .32WS. These are stored in a metal ammo can (with lots of desiccant) behind some pretty heavy boxes of other "stuff". (Murphy Law) Perhaps later tonight, or tomorrow I might be able to seek them. I do know for some I have all the parts/pieces but neither necessarily all nor the correct ones for each. Not to give you any false hope... but, I'll look and you may get lucky. If I have -- I'll take photos as well as provide measurements. Your posting photos of what you have, or, your purchase -- will make it much easier for me (and perhaps others?)

A Lee case length gauge is a functional substitute for these all too often missing pins.

Add a brass or copper acorn nut to it's threads; if like me, you are a bit zealous in protecting tools.

There is a fellow seller on fleabay who makes those, or I assume he makes them. He has listed SCORES of them over the past years in every caliber you might want. Look for a pin alone for sale, then see his other auctions. He may have 3 or a dozen for sale. Far too many for anybody to have found in a box in some yard sales deal. Contact him. They look to be a reasonable replacement.
