New Bullet gas checks are too tight to fit on.

I got a mold for the Lee 155 grain 7.62 bullet and am having difficulty fitting my Vulcan 30 cal .0135" checks on, They are too tight. The rebated area is .284-5". I have gotten some on with a plastic mallet taping along the edge but have ruined about 30% of them. Once run through my sizer, the ones that got seated are fine.

My question is: Would thinner checks give me a better chance at fitting them?

I suspect I have the same mold as you and I am using Gator checks with no issues in a Lee push through sizer. Try a few different brands.

I ended up using Vulcan's thinner 0.011 aluminum checks for my 30 cal boolits. Work great. A NOE gas check seating die made popping them on easier for me.

When I run into that problem ( and it is fairly common ), I take a 6" long bolt, I cut the threads off of it with a hack saw, turned a slight bevel on the end of the bolt with a flat file. Polish with some fine grit sand paper. Put your " new gas check flare tool " into the gas check, give a couple of soft taps with a small hammer an you'll find that it makes all the difference in the world with the bullet base going into the your gas check without shaving metal and it will always seat itself perfectly square.

Would someone explain the NOE check expander. I can see one part looks like it snaps into the shell holder slot, what does the other part hook into?

Some molds are just not up to specs and are machined too wide in that critical spot.

The other part threads into the press like a loading die.

Thanks btroj, the more I looked at it I got to thinking it was a bolt threaded into the top of the press.
