2024 Nevada Cast Bullet Shoot
Ladies and Gentlemen, friends and acquaintances! The 24th Nevada Cast Bullet Shoot is scheduled for June 14th, 15th, and 16th at the Humboldt County Shooting Park just north of Winnemucca.
Please consider this post the invitation for past and new participants to come spend quality time with a group of great folks and do a bunch of shooting!
If you have always wanted to go, but allowed stuff to get in your way - now is the time to join us. Don't put it off any longer! Life is too short not to enjoy!!

Although the event is more about friendship and camaraderie, we do have some friendly competition too!!
Competition targets shot during the event fall into two categories, group and score:
Group targets test the caster/ reloader and any shooting position is allowed so long as no rest such as a bipod is attached to the firearm.
Score targets test shooting skills and are shot from an unsupported (no sling) offhand position.

Open competition events include:
100 yard score—5 shots any sight
100 yard group—5 shots any sight
50 yard score—5 shots iron sights
50 yard group—5 shots iron sights
25 yard pistol score—5 shots iron sight, 10 inch max barrel length
25 yard pistol group—5 shots iron sight, 10 inch max barrel length
25 yard companion gun score—5 shots each iron sight rifle and pistol offhand shooting same ammo
Long range—5 shots iron sight/any non-prone field position on 400 yard plate
Practical rifle—10 shots iron sight offhand in 3 minutes shooting at multiple plates between 100 and 200 yards

Each shooter can make only one official entry per event with a particular gun, but multiple entries are allowed by using other firearms.
Sharing use of guns is the key here to see if another shooter can do better with your gun!

There are also two ladies only events:
100 yard score—5 shots any sight any position
50 yard group—5 shots any sight any position

We also have at least one group/team shoot. Last year we did a stake shoot, with two teams using handguns, trying to see which team can be the first to cut their stake in half! Very Fun!

There will be a kickoff lunch at the Griddle at 1:00 on Friday, and a "Rools committee" dinner on Friday night (all are invited and the location to be announced).
Saturday we will start shooting at 8:00 AM, and hold a potluck dinner that evening at the range clubhouse.
Sunday we will shoot until mid afternoon, tear down the range targets and head back to our rooms and campers to clean up for a final group dinner at a local restaurant.
Each participant is requested to bring two prizes to this dinner to be awarded by random drawing.
Typical prizes include surplus bullet molds or reloading gear/supplies. There may also be additional vendor-supplied prizes.

If you are interested, many pictures of previous events are posted to give you a feel for what happens. The 2020 shoot even included a group trip through a ghost town and into the high Santa Rosa Mtns the days before the event. Good food, good people, good times!

Do you have an internet link about the shoot, or to photos from previous events? I love going sage rat shooting around Winnemucca, but that's usually a month or so before the cast bullet shoot. Maybe I should take two trips over there this year.

The shoot is probably more than a month late for sage rats. As for more info and pictures, just scroll down through this get-together/competitions subject and you will see NCBS threads for many years.

If you want to see what Winnemucca country looks like, the Bureau of Land Management in cooperation with several universities has mountain top cameras all over Nevada to monitor wild fires. The newest one is on top of Winnemucca Mountain just above town. The website is called- alertwildfire.org - Yesterday, for instance, Paradise Valley, north of town, was snow-covered from the mountain tops all across the valley floor. Absolutely beautiful!!! Today, the snow on the valley floors has already melted off. The camera rotates to give different views often. A couple years ago my wife and I drove to the top and, after leaving the car surprised a herd of 20+ antelope bedded in a hollow right on top.

This is the address I use. If you can get to it this way you will see about 45 thumbnail pictures from the various mountain tops. If that doesn't work try searching "Buckskin Mountain Nevada cam" which is about 40 miles north of Winnemucca mountain or Sonoma Peak cam about 10 miles south of Winnemucca. I just tried all three and they worked for me.

The Nevada Cast Bullet Shoot is just over 5 weeks away!!

For all that are interested, here is the timetable for meals for the weekend:

Meet Friday at noon at the Griddle. Friday dinner is 6:00 pm in the back room at the Martin. Saturday afternoon/evening potluck at the range. And dinner Sunday, around 6, in the back room at Sid's. The Martin is expecting that everyone will order there own meat dish and then do the usual family-style salad, beans etc to pass around the table. Sid's is a normal restaurant menu. They do not have a bar, but they serve beer, wine and their specialty drink: Mimosas (about 6-8 different flavors).

Oh, and the shooting takes place at the range, normally from 8 to 5 or so, on Saturday and Sunday!!

Just so you know, the Martin is a Basque restaurant with Basque style family dinners. Even though I live a rock throw from Washington's prime clam digging, Hood Canal, I once ordered a clam linguine main course there for fun and it was the best I ever had.

Drug the camp trailer down to Winnemucca to attend the 25th NCBS gathering. Blew out one of the driver's side tires on the trailer, just before the turn-off to Paradise Valley.
Set up at the camp ground in Winnemucca, and busted the head off of one of the bolts used to crank the jacks for the trailer down.
Went to dinner and the "rools" committee meeting at the Martin hotel. Food was great as always, and so was the company.
